Tesco Bags of Help Grant – Hillingdon

The Colne Valley has the chance to benefit from Tesco’s Bags of Help grant scheme, but we need your help!

About Tesco Bag’s of Help

Tesco teamed up with Groundwork to launch its Bags of Help initiative across England and Wales. The scheme sees three community groups and projects in each of around 200 Tesco regions awarded grants of £5,000, £2,000 and £1,000 – all raised from the 5p bag charge.

Bags of Help offers community groups and projects across the UK a share of revenue generated from the 5p charge levied on single-use carrier bags. The public will now vote in store from 1 to 31 December on who should receive the £5,000, £2,000 and £1,000 awards. For more information please visit www.tesco.com/bagsofhelp.

How Will We Use the Grant?

Our Tesco Bags of Help grant will enable the set up of Green and Wild Explorers (GWE), based at the Colne Valley Visitor Centre in Denham Country Park. It will buy new equipment, pay for printing costs and enable staff to run a series of free children’s events.

What is Green and Wild Explorers?Colne Valley Food & Music Festival 2014

Green and Wild Explorers is a initiative to provide self-led, but structured activities around   the park to help people engage with, enjoy and experience nature and the great outdoors. Activities such as Bird Safaris, Bug Hunting and River Dipping will be available to people of all ages, and we will be able to provide better equipment and staff support with this grant.

The Colne Valley, and by default, Denham Country Park, is a haven for wildlife, but there is also an ongoing battle to protect wildlife and habitats (things such as water pollution and littering have a big impact), and we know that theres no better way to protect the environment than by getting people up and actively involved in it!

Who Benefits?

Anyone who visits the Park will stand to benefit in the short term by having a broader animal-1range of family friendly activities to choose from, but in the long term the benefits are far-reaching. The community will benefit from increased local awareness about the importance of the Colne Valley and its ongoing success as a beautiful, ancient and irreplaceable landscape.
